In the next week I will be starting a course that is for people who live with a Chronic Disease/Illness through Alberta Health Services and Healthy Living Canada. It is a 6-week course that focuses on self-management, regaining control while living with chronic illness, and learning to increase productivity while pacing yourself through ‘day-to-day’ life. It is a pilot program, highly interactive, and is peer facilitated, with a maximum of 25 other people in your online learning ‘group’. Last week before I went away, I got my textbook in the mail, and I am looking forward to diving in!
Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions Canadian Edition is the text that I will be using as I work my way through this class. Ar first glance it looks to be a really comprehensive text! And I only have 409 pages to work through! 😉 It covers topics such as Using your mind to Manage your Symptoms, becoming an active Self-Manager, Communication and Chronic Disease, and Intimacy – among many others. This book has been revised and updated a few times, and is available for purchase online if anyone is interested.
If you meet the following criteria, and are interested in taking this workshop yourself, please let me know, and I will forward the pertaining information to you:
- Adults with any type of long-term health condition
- Live in Canada
- Not undergoing current cancer treatment
- Not pregnant
- Literate in English (only offered in English at this time)
My hope is that it not only helps me manage my pain, but it make me a better health blogger as well 😉 I believe that ongoing education is crucial to living well with a chronic condition. I took many classes when I was a patient at the Chronic Pain Centre, but I have been out of that program for awhile now, and I am looking forward to refreshing my memory and also learning new self-management techniques.
I hope you all are having a a peaceful day – it is almost the weekend!!!
