Just passing on another article….
It looks like the FDA has approved another medication, EXALGO (A hydromorphine opioid medication) for the treatment of moderate to severe chronic pain. You can click on the link above to go the press release that came out today in regards to this.
Exalgo provides a well known hydromorphine therapy but there is promising studies that show it provides reliefe even to opiate tolerant patients because of the release method. It is designed for patients requiring continuous, around-the-clock opioid analgesia for an extended period of time. It is administered once daily from what I understand.
I have not heard of this medication before, so I will have to do some more research on my own, but it will be interesting to follow how this medication will be prescribed, and how it works….
For those chronic pain patients that have been using opioids and have become tolerant of them, or they have lost effectiveness over time, this might just be an option to discuss with your Doctor!
Just passing the info along folks… 😉 Remember I am NOT a doctor (but I’d like to play one on Grey’s Anatomy, THAT would be fun!!)
