Son: Mom at school today, I was playing with a bunch of boys at recess, and we were fooling around. I was trying to pick up one of my friends, I slipped, he fell on top of me, and it really hurt my B_____ (Body part, found on all men, rhymes will stalls 😉 ) So I told my friend he hurt my B____!!
Me: Oh honey, I am sorry to hear that, but you should probably not say that word though, because it doesn’t sound very nice. If a teacher had heard you say that honey, you might get in trouble! (Keep in mind he attends a uniform-wearing Catholic school)
Son: Oh MOM!!! (eye roll) THAT IS WHAT THEY ARE CALLED!!! ALL THE BOYS SAY THAT!!
Me: Well I know that honey, but it is a slang word.. and.. um… it could sound like you are saying a bad word, and I don’t want you to get in trouble honey, that’s all…
Son: So you are saying I am a bad boy and I am in trouble in other words?
Me: Do I look angry? Did I say you were in trouble?… NO… I am sorry you got hurt today, I just don’t want you saying that word at school. What you say between the two of us at home is one thing, but what you say at school is another – IF a teacher had walked by and heard you say that, they might think you are being rude!
Son: Well DUH!!! Mom you JUST don’t understand, because you are a GIRL, and you are well-behaved…saying B____, and being gross and rude, scratching in your underwear, rough-housing… Mom that is all normal for boys, and you just don’t understand that…. I will stand up for myself if I get in trouble for saying B____ at school, BECAUSE THAT IS A MAN’S INSTINCT!!!!!!
Me: Stutter… (laughter)…. Okay babe (what do you say to THAT?)
