What a tragic way to start the 2010 Winter Olympics…..
My son and I have been bursting with anticipation all morning, waiting for the Opening Ceremonies to begin. We have been speaking for days about how we were going to celebrate today and how the Olympics have the ability to bring the world together……
As I was making lunch, we heard of a tragic accident that occurred on the luge track during practice. My son called me to the living room so I could see what was happening on the TV….
21-year-old Georgian luge hopeful, Nodar Kumaritashvili crashed during a practice run, and sadly succumbed to his injuries.
So while the rest of the world celebrates the Opening of the Olympics, there is a family without their son, a team without their mate, and a young committed athlete robbed of the opportunity of a lifetime….
How very sad…..
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, team mates, and the whole community of athletes that have gathered in Vancouver….
