Wow, I am SO exhausted today. You know that kind of exhaustion that you can feel in your toes and eye balls? The kind of exhaustion that makes your skin hurt? Yep… that is how I feel today.
My honey took me out last night on a date, and I am afraid I am paying the price for it today. It was SOOOOOOO nice to get out of the house though. I don’t know about any of you that might have Fibromyalgia or CFS, but I tend to isolate and go into hibernation when I am not feeling well. I used to be SO outgoing, and used to LOVE going out, but as time has gone by I become more and more of a home-body. I LOVE my home, but after 2 weeks of not leaving my couch, except to go to bed, I was starting to feel REALLY unbalanced.
SO, as all good men do…. Tim very nicely nudged me yesterday into going out for dinner and having a glass of wine after, and just having a change of scenery. It was SOOOOO nice! I really felt like a ‘woman’ last night, and not a ‘patient’ ;).
If you feel as if you have a tendency to isolate as well, then PLEASE do yourself a favor, and leave your comfort zone once in awhile to experience the world around you, and maybe have a bit of social time…. I think it does the world of good!! It doesn’t matter if you suffer from pain or not! YES, I am talking to you! All of you MOM’S out there know what I mean!! It doesn’t matter if we are Chronic Mom’s or Healthy Mom’s….. we tend to do everything we can for our families, and then we isolate in our down-time….. If this sounds like YOU….. Plan a ‘date’ night once every 2 or 3 weeks…. time that you can take your ‘mommy hat’ off for a few hours…. I think it is SO important! I will be the first to admit that I am not so great at taking my own advice sometimes, 😉 but I am trying to work on it.
I have realized when I am really not feeling well enough to take off my jammies and leave the heating pad, it IS possible to have date night at home. Tim and I often light candles and incense, pour a glass of wine, turn on the fireplace, and just BE with each other…. and that is sometimes my favorite kind of date night! It doesn’t take a whole lot of energy, but it feels very different from the nights that we are chugging coke from a can with the light from the halogen bulbs so bright I swear you could land a small aircraft in our living room! The difference is INTENTION. It literally takes 5 mins to transform our living room from an 8 year old boy’s lair to a place of serenity and relaxation.
One thing, as I get older, I find that I am more selfish with my time. I truly want to make my time COUNT. I spend SO much time dedicating my life to my son, that I think it is important to dedicate some time to the love of my life…. and in doing that I am honoring myself too.
Yaaaawwwwnnnnnnn………… Yep, I am so EXHAUSTED today, and I apologize if my blog reflects that today. I really NEEDED last night though, so I wouldn’t have it any other way.
What do you like to do on date night? Leave a comment, I’d LOVE to hear some new ideas!!
