Has anyone ever heard of intravenous
immunoglobulin treatments for the
management of chronic pain?
It always surprises me here of yet another treatment for chronic pain! I have spent a great deal of time in the past 4 years educating myself on every possible treatment modality I could find. But I have never heard of this one!
IVIG or intravenous immunoglobulin is a blood product that is being used to treat chronic pain. I wonder how this works?
Wikipedia explains what IVIG is here. -and- here is an article I found today on BBC News about this treatment.
Does anyone know more about this treatment? Is this something that you have heard of before or even offered?
I honestly have never EVER heard of this treatment, and I think it is VERY interesting…. I think I have some more researching to do!!
Just passing the info along…. and AGAIN I am not a medical professional
so please don’t take this as advice. I just think that the more we know the more we can advocate for ourselves.

I don’t know how it works for chronic pain, but I know it is used with autoimmune illnesses…. the first two that come to mind are systemic lupus and ITP, but I’m sure there are others as well, I just can’t remember which ones.

Thanks so much for stopping by and taking the time to fill me in
I have never heard of this type of treatment before! i am going to have to do some research on this one. Initially I was tested for autoimmune illnesses, but I tested negative – and that is probably the only time I did research on topics such as that.
You have a fantastic blog by the way!!
Jolene
new to me too.

It is new to me, but it is fascinating all the ways that the medical community is finding pain treatments! I thought it was interesting…
